Description

Rummy 500 keeps score across hands instead of settling everything in one. You build sets of matching ranks and runs of the same suit, lay them on the table, and the cards you have melded count towards a running total. The game ends when a player passes five hundred.

That scoring changes what a hand is for. Going out fast is not automatically the best result, because a player who melded more before you finished can come out ahead on points. There is a real argument for holding a hand open a little longer, and a real risk in doing it.

The discard pile is where the game gets interesting. Taking from it means committing to the card you wanted and everything above it, so a pile that has been building for a few turns is both an opportunity and a load of dead weight you now have to find a use for.

Three modes cover different appetites. Classic is the full game, the three-player mode changes how quickly cards disappear from the table, and Speed mode strips the deliberation out. The game runs offline against the computer, keeps statistics, and lets you pick up an unfinished match where you left it.
