Description

Rummy is the ancestor of a whole family of card games, and Rummy Classic plays the plain version: draw one, discard one, and arrange your hand into sets of the same rank and runs of the same suit until nothing is left unmatched.

Going out ends the round for everyone, and every card still in the other players’ hands is scored to you. That single rule sets the tempo. A hand one card from finishing is worth more than a tidy hand three cards away, and holding a high card in the hope of using it is the most common way to hand someone else a large round.

The discard pile is public information and it works both ways. Taking from it tells the table exactly what you are building, and watching what an opponent picks up is usually the only warning you get before they declare. Most of the skill is in reading that and adjusting what you are willing to throw.

Games run to two hundred points, so one bad round is survivable and a string of them is not. The computer opponents play the rules properly rather than randomly, which matters in a game that punishes a careless discard immediately.
