Elite Chess is ordinary chess with the clock treated as a first-class part of the game. The pieces move the way they always have, but you choose whether a match gives you seconds, minutes or proper thinking time before you sit down, and that choice changes everything about how you play.

Bullet is where calculation gives way to pattern. There is no time to work anything out, so you play the move that looks right and trust that you have seen the position before. Losing on time with a winning board is normal here, and learning to accept a good-enough move quickly is the actual skill being trained.

Classical goes the other way. Nothing stops you working through a line properly, so a loss is a loss of understanding rather than of speed, and the mistakes are ones you can go back and name. Most players find their real level here and then discover it does not survive the switch to blitz.

A ladder runs from Bronze up to Diamond, and it climbs on results rather than on time spent. That makes the rank a fairly honest description of where you are, and it gives the game a direction beyond simply playing another match.
