Description

Yatzy is the dice game where luck deals and judgement plays. You roll five dice, hold the ones you want, and roll the rest again, up to three times. Then you write the result into one of the scoring categories, and that category is gone for the rest of the game.

The real decision is never which dice to keep. It is which box to spend a mediocre roll on. Putting a poor result into a category you were saving costs you nothing now and everything later, and the last few turns of a game are almost entirely about the boxes you left open.

Holding dice is where beginners lose. Keeping four of a kind and rerolling one die feels safe and often is not, because the category you were building towards may already be filled. Playing the sheet rather than the dice is the whole skill.

Two players share the arena, so every roll you take is one your opponent watches and plans around. Matches are quick, the maths is simple, and the tension comes entirely from a sheet that keeps closing.
