Description

Pops Quest is a platformer with a reason to run. The child is gone, the father goes after them, and every level is another stretch of ground between the two.

Mechanically it is quick and unforgiving in the way the good ones are. Levels are laid out to be read at speed rather than examined, and they assume you will die a few times learning where a jump begins. Nothing is hidden to be cruel; it is hidden to be learned.

The story sits underneath rather than on top. There are no long cutscenes, but the levels get darker and the enemies get less ordinary as you close in, and by the last stretch the difficulty and the narrative are pushing in the same direction.

The controls are two keys and a jump, which is the correct amount for a game that wants your attention on the level rather than on your hands. It rewards learning a route the way a speedrunner does, and the last run through a level you have finally solved feels quite different from the first.
