You start small and grow by consuming what you can catch. That much is the usual arena snake arrangement, and the difference here is that length is not the only thing that changes — gold collected along the way buys attributes, and those persist in a way a body length does not.

Speed, ferocity and stamina pull in different directions. A fast snake reaches food first and reaches trouble first as well; a ferocious one wins the exchanges it enters; stamina decides how long you can keep either of those up. Spreading gold evenly produces a snake that is adequate at everything and dominant at nothing.

Rivals wait for a mistake rather than hunting you down, which changes how the arena feels. A long snake that moves predictably is easier to trap than a short one that does not, so growth makes you a bigger target as well as a bigger threat.

Trophies unlock stages populated by deadlier snakes, so the difficulty comes from where you are playing rather than from a number going up. It rewards playing on, since a stage you can survive is a stage you earned.
