Description

Turret Gunner puts you in the seat facing backwards. The aircraft moves without you, enemy planes come in from wherever they like, and everything you control is a turret, a rocket and a howitzer.

Not steering changes what the game is about. You cannot avoid anything, so the only defence is hitting things before they finish their run. Leading a fast target across an open sky is a different skill from aiming at one standing still, and the game is almost entirely that skill.

The three weapons cover different problems. The turret is continuous and weak, the rocket is precise and slow to arrive, and the howitzer clears a space rather than a target. Buying one mid-fight means giving up the money that would have bought another later.

Waves keep arriving and the sky gets busier rather than harder, which is a fair description of what a rear gunner’s day was actually like. It is a simple loop played straight, and the aircraft models are worth a look on their own.
