Solitaire is not one game. It is a family of them that happen to share a deck, and the differences between the members are larger than people expect. This collection puts twelve of the best known in one place.

They vary in how much luck they allow. FreeCell deals everything face up and is nearly always solvable; Klondike hides most of the deck and sometimes cannot be won at all. Spider sits between them and lets you set your own difficulty by suit count. Knowing which kind of afternoon you want is half of picking one.

Having them together also makes the shared skills obvious. Emptying a column matters everywhere. Sending cards to the foundations too eagerly is a mistake in most of them. Once you notice that, a variant you have never played becomes readable within a hand or two.

Daily deals and a high score table give a reason to return to the ones you would not otherwise pick. It is the sort of collection that is worth more than the sum of its parts, because the variant you were avoiding is usually one rule away from the one you like.
