Snakes and Ladders 2 is the board game as it has always been, built for two players in a browser. One hundred squares, one die, ladders that carry you forward and snakes that send you back.

Nothing here is decided by skill, which is the point. The game is old — it comes from India, where the ladders stood for good conduct and the snakes for the opposite — and the reason it survived is that the swings are enormous and entirely out of your hands.

The board is not evenly cruel. A few snakes near the top drop you most of the way back down, and a couple of ladders skip whole sections in one roll. Knowing which squares those are does not help you avoid them, but it does change how a game feels from square 90 onward.

You need an exact roll to finish. Overshoot 100 and your piece bounces back by the difference, which is how a game that looked finished turns into three more turns and, occasionally, one last snake.
