Description

Drop 4 is the grid game everyone has played on a plastic frame: seven columns, six rows, and a race to line up four discs of your colour in any direction. You choose the column, gravity chooses the row. That single restriction is what separates it from noughts and crosses.

Because a disc always lands on top of the last one, every move builds a platform for your opponent. Filling a square you want often means handing them the square above it. Good players spend the opening avoiding those gifts rather than chasing a line, and matches are frequently decided by who is forced to move first into a bad column.

The classic trap is the double threat: a position where you complete four in two different places at once, so blocking one loses to the other. Setting one up takes three or four quiet moves, and spotting one being set up against you is the skill that takes longest to learn.

There are three ways in: online against a matched opponent, on one device against a friend, or against the computer. Rounds last a couple of minutes, which makes it an easy game to play several of in a row.
