Description

Carrom is a flicking game on a square board with pockets at the corners. You strike a heavier disc into your own pieces and try to send them into a pocket, and the whole thing runs on angles and on how hard you hit.

The Queen is the red piece and the rule around it is what gives the game its shape. Potting her is not enough on its own — you have to follow her immediately with one of your own pieces, and failing to do so puts her back on the board. That makes her a shot you take when you already have a second one lined up.

She also has to be covered before your last piece goes down. A player who clears everything and leaves the Queen for the end has left themselves needing two shots in a row at the point where there is nothing else on the board to help. Taking her mid-game is usually the safer plan.

Play is online against other people, which suits a game where reading a board matters more than reacting quickly. There is no clock pressure in the shot itself, so the time goes into working out which angle is available.
