Description

The board is the standard draughts arrangement and pieces move one square diagonally forward. What separates this from a gentle board game is the rule that a capture, when it is available, is not optional — if your piece can jump an opponent, it has to.

That turns every placement into a commitment. Putting a piece beside an enemy with an empty square behind it does not threaten them; it obliges you to be taken or obliges them to take. Good players spend more time working out what they are forcing than what they are attacking.

Chain captures are where games are decided. If a jump opens another jump, the same turn continues, so one badly placed piece can cost three at once. Setting up a chain against an opponent means arranging your own pieces to be ignored, which is harder than it sounds.

A piece that reaches the far side becomes a king and gains the ability to move backwards as well as forwards, which changes the whole board rather than just that piece. You can play against the computer, against someone online, or with a second person on the same screen.
