Age of Zombies

Age of Zombies is a twin-stick shooter that drops you into the boots of Barry Steakfries, a wisecracking hero pulled into a time-jumping mission to clean up the undead before they overrun history. The whole thing has a comic-book swagger to it — cartoony art, snappy one-liners, and a tone that never takes itself too seriously even when zombies are pouring in from every corner of the screen.

The campaign runs you through 24 levels spread across 8 different worlds, each one with its own time period and flavor of undead. You will fight through prehistoric jungles, ancient Egypt, feudal Japan, and a few other eras you would not expect to be crawling with zombies. Every world ends with a boss fight, and there are 7 unique bosses in total, each one large, loud, and built around a different attack pattern that you have to learn before you can take it down.

What keeps the action fresh is the variety of zombies and weapons. You start with a basic gun but quickly pick up shotguns, machine guns, flamethrowers, and grenades along the way. Different undead types behave differently — some shamble straight at you, others sprint, some explode, and a few hide tricks you only find out about the hard way. Your left stick walks, your right stick aims, and the constant juggling of those two motions is what gives twin-stick shooters their hook.

Outside the main campaign, there are 12 Horde levels built purely for survival. The screen fills with enemies, the waves get nastier, and the longer you last the higher you climb on the leaderboards. It is the perfect mode for a quick session when you do not feel like committing to story progress — pick a stage, see how long you can hold out, then come back tomorrow and try to beat your own score.

How to Play:

• Use the left stick or WASD keys to move Barry around the battlefield
• Use the right stick or aim with the mouse and click to shoot in any direction
• Press G to throw a grenade when zombies pile up too close
• Pick up new weapons and upgrades dropped by enemies between waves
• In Horde mode survive as long as possible and chase the leaderboard
