Shadows of the Forest: Reign of Triduja

Shadows of the Forest sets its scene in a few lines before you move. You were passing through the old forest in the realm of Triduya when your pickup truck ground to a halt, and now you have to find a way to survive.

The view is first person, and the only thing in your hands is a lantern. Fog cuts visibility down to a few trees, bare branches lean in overhead, and your crosshair is drawn as an eye rather than a dot.

The loading screen shows what the fog is hiding: a tall, thin figure with glowing red eyes standing among low-poly pines, with a lantern raised towards it. The art is stylised rather than gory, but the intent is clear.

A blue arrow is planted in the ground to point you away from the wreck, and a timber building with a steep roof waits somewhere ahead in the mist. The game downloads eighteen megabytes before it starts, so give it a moment.
