Description

A swimmer moves down an indoor pool that never ends, and tapping shifts them between lanes. There is no speeding up or slowing down on demand — the only decision is which lane to be in when the next obstacle arrives.

That restriction is what makes it read cleanly at speed. Obstacles occupy lanes rather than arbitrary positions, so the question is always a simple one with a countable set of answers, and failing means you picked one of them too late rather than misjudged a distance.

Snorkels increase speed, which sounds like a straightforward reward and is partly a cost. A faster swimmer covers more pool per second and gets less time to read each lane, so a run that has collected several snorkels is harder to steer than one that has not.

Shields absorb a hit, and they are the only margin for error the game offers. Holding one going into a crowded stretch is worth more than spending it on the first thing you meet, and that small piece of restraint is most of what separates a long swim from a short one.
