Description

The match starts with a landing on a large map and an empty pair of hands. Weapons, ammunition and armour are scattered through the buildings and across open ground, and what turns up in the first sixty seconds decides how the rest of the round goes. A pistol against someone holding a rifle is a losing trade, which is why the early game is a search instead of a fight.

Movement sits on WASD while aiming follows the cursor, so your character can back away from a doorway and still cover it. Firing is the left mouse button. Because the camera looks straight down, you see a wider slice of the map than a first-person shooter would allow, and enemies rarely appear out of nowhere. The trade is that they see you just as clearly.

Cover matters more than reflexes here. Walls, crates and buildings break the line of sight, and a player who moves between them gets to choose when a fight happens. Standing still in the open is the quickest way out of a match, however good the gun is. Items on E or F are the small reserve you hold back for the moment an exchange goes wrong.

Rounds are short and there is a mode to pick before each one begins. Weapons swap with the mouse wheel or the number keys, which is fast enough to matter in the middle of a firefight. The last player standing takes the round, and the shape of that ending changes every time depending on what the map handed out.
