Vikings: An Archer’s Journey puts two genres in the same hand. It runs forward like an endless runner and shoots like a shoot ’em up, and because the running never pauses, every arrow leaves a moving platform you do not control.

Drawing the bow is a pull and a release rather than a click, so each shot costs time you were going to need for jumping. A long draw hits harder and lands later; a quick one is safe and often not enough. That trade is the whole combat system.

The art carries as much of it as the shooting does. The style is stripped back to flat shapes and a narrow palette, so a creature reads as a silhouette before you can identify it — which is exactly as much information as the game wants you to have mid-run.

Nott is a Valkyrie chasing her wolf into the Underworld, and the Nordic creatures she meets escalate along with the journey. Upgrades collect as you go, and Viking heroes join her for stretches of it.
