Description

Moscow Metro Driver puts you in the cab of a train on the Kalininskaya line, running the eight stations from Tretyakovskaya out to Novokosino. There is no traffic, no steering and nothing to avoid. There is a throttle, a brake, and a schedule.

The controls are modelled on the real thing rather than simplified into an accelerator. You move a controller through four power notches and three braking notches, and each one behaves differently at different speeds. Bringing a train to rest with its doors lined up on the platform is a skill that takes several attempts to acquire.

Four train types are included, from the old Nomernoy to the newer Moskva stock, and they do not accelerate or stop alike. A braking point that worked on one will overshoot on another, which is the detail that makes the simulation worth returning to.

The station announcements are the real recordings from the Moscow metro, and a training mode teaches the controls before the driver mode expects you to know them. It is a quiet game with almost nothing at stake, which is exactly the appeal.
