Word of Fortune hides a five-letter word behind a written clue. You can spin a wheel up to three times to reveal letters, and you get two attempts at the answer. That is the entire structure, and it is tighter than it sounds.

The tension is in when to spin. Every reveal narrows the field, but the wheel gives what it gives rather than what you need, and a spin spent on a letter you had already worked out from the clue is a spin wasted. Reading the clue properly before touching the wheel is the difference between winning and going out.

Two guesses is a deliberately cruel number. It is enough to test a hypothesis and be wrong once, and not enough to work through a list. The correct approach is to hold your first guess until the letters and the clue actually agree.
