Otu
Description
In Otu you are a triangle circling a central platform, and you cannot leave that orbit. All you can do is rotate around it, faster or slower, while the space around you fills with things trying to occupy where you are standing.
Three kinds of threat arrive and they want opposite responses. Spheres close in from outside and reward constant movement, shrinking bars squeeze the orbit and reward being somewhere specific, and rotating lasers sweep the circle and reward waiting for a gap. Handling one badly is survivable; handling two at once is where runs end.
Every ten seconds the game applies a random debuff, and this is what stops the game becoming a memorised routine. The screen shakes, or the controls invert, or your vision pixelates, or the orbit itself shifts. You do not get to choose, and the skill is in recognising what has changed before it kills you.
Because the modifiers are random, no two runs line up, and the one you were doing well in can be undone by an inverted-controls stretch during a laser sweep. That makes the high scores feel earned, and it keeps a game this simple from settling into repetition.
