Description

Two insect colonies share ground that only supports one of them. You spread outwards to take territory, and the territory is what lets you grow, so the two things you need most are the same thing and they compete for your attention.

The defence side of the game is what stops expansion from being free. A position you have taken has to be held, and a colony stretched thin across a lot of ground loses more of it than a compact one ever would. Knowing when to stop advancing is the skill the game is actually testing.

Ants and roaches are not decoration on top of an abstract map — the enemy is doing to you exactly what you are doing to them, at the same time, from the other side. Ground you leave lightly held is ground they will be standing on shortly.

The stated goal is total elimination, which rules out the settled stalemate a lot of territory games drift into. Everything is worked with the mouse or a touchscreen, which keeps the input out of the way of the decisions.
