Description

Steampunk Merge To Battle sets a row of castles in front of you and expects you to take all of them. Warriors and archers are bought onto the field, and combining two of the same unit produces the next step up its evolution, which is how a starting force becomes something that can break a wall.

The catch is that both buying and merging come out of the same purse. Filling the field with cheap units wins a fight that is about to happen; saving for merges wins the fight after it. Reading which one you are actually in is the whole strategic content of the game.

Battles run in real time, so a merge made a moment too late is a merge made during a collapse. There is a rhythm to it: build up while the enemy is still walking, merge in the gap between waves, and resist the urge to spend the moment you can afford something.

Your own castle can be built up and upgraded alongside the troops, which gives you a second place to put money and a reason not to. Progress runs level by level through the evolution chain, and seeing a unit you have been merging towards finally appear is most of the appeal.
