Description

Mr. Macagi Adventures is a straightforward platformer with two halves. The forest stages are cluttered, with cover and short sight lines and monsters that appear from behind things. The desert stages are open, which sounds easier and is not.

In the forest you cannot see far, so you learn the level by walking it. In the desert you can see everything, which means every hazard is already visible and the only thing left to get wrong is the timing. The two halves ask for different mistakes.

Apples and coins are scattered along both, usually on the route that costs a jump you did not have to take. Collecting them is optional, which is exactly why the layouts put them where the interesting movement is.

The monsters are not clever, and they are not meant to be. They are placed, and the game is about learning where. Eight stages is short enough to finish and long enough to feel like a journey.
