Description

Draw Climber replaces the usual controls with a drawing box. Whatever shape you scribble becomes the legs your character runs on, and it will run on it — a straight line, a circle, a hook, all of them move you somehow, just not equally well.

The comedy and the strategy are the same thing. Long thin legs cover ground quickly on flat track and fall apart on a step; a stubby wheel-like shape climbs almost anything and gets overtaken on the straight. There is no single right answer, only one that suits the ten metres in front of you.

Getting stuck is expected rather than a failure state. When your shape cannot handle what has appeared, you draw a new one on the spot, and the ability to recognise quickly what the obstacle needs is the actual skill the game develops.

The races are short and the tone is light throughout. It is one of those ideas that sounds like a novelty and turns out to have a genuine game underneath it, mostly because redrawing under time pressure is harder than it looks.
