The farm runs on a chain: an egg in the pen hatches into an animal, the animal lays eggs over time, and trucks carry those eggs away to be sold. Each link only matters as much as the weakest one, which is the thing the game keeps teaching.

Adding animals is the obvious move and the one that stops helping first. A pen producing more eggs than the trucks can carry is a pen with eggs sitting in it, and eggs sitting in a pen are not earning anything. Watching where the surplus builds up tells you what to upgrade next.

Because production continues while you are away, the farm is doing something whether or not you are watching. Coming back to a full run of deliveries is the reward for having balanced the chain before you left rather than for having played longer.

Clicking hatches, collects and upgrades, and there is nothing faster to learn. It suits short visits — check what has piled up, spend the earnings on whichever link is lagging, and leave it running again.
