Description

Merge Pixel is a merge board with a cast rather than a set of objects. Two identical characters combine into the next one up the ladder, and the ladder runs from ordinary villagers through knights and wizards to whatever is at the end of it.

Because the characters are drawn as sprites rather than icons, the progression reads at a glance. You can see how far along a board is without checking a number, which sounds trivial and is the reason a game like this stays playable for longer than five minutes.

The mechanics are as plain as the genre gets: drag one onto another, watch them combine, keep the board from filling. There is no timer and no failure beyond running out of space, and running out of space is entirely your own doing.

The pull is the chain itself. Nobody plays this for the strategy; they play it because there is a character three merges away that they have not seen yet, and that is enough.
