Planet Takeover
Description
Every planet you hold can be connected to another, and a connection is how force moves. Drawing a line from one of your planets to an enemy one sends what that planet has at it, so the whole game is deciding which of your worlds spends itself on which target.
Because a planet sending troops is a planet not defending itself, the line you draw is a risk taken in two directions at once. A well-defended enemy world can absorb what you sent and leave your own planet open to whatever comes next.
Alliances are available and the game is explicit that they cut both ways. An ally is reach you did not have to pay for, right up to the moment it stops being one, and the possibility of that is what stops the map from settling into a safe arrangement.
The board is the whole galaxy and the objective is all of it, so there is no partial victory to settle for. Everything is done by connecting planets, which keeps a game about empires down to one gesture.
