School Love Story is a visual novel rather than a game with mechanics. You read, you choose what your character says or does at certain points, and the story bends around those choices. There is nothing to time and nothing to beat.

Four routes run through the story, each following a different character — a musician, a programmer and two others with their own reasons for being difficult to get to know. The routes are not just different endings attached to the same events; the middle of the story changes depending on who you are paying attention to.

More than ten endings exist, and reaching a particular one is rarely a matter of picking the obviously kind option every time. The story rewards consistency more than niceness, so a character responds to whether your choices add up rather than to whether each one was pleasant.

The artwork is drawn in a clean anime style and the soundtrack is written to sit under the reading rather than compete with it. A single route takes an evening, and going back for another one is quicker because you already know which turns are the ones that matter.
