Acox

Acox strips a platformer down to the bare essentials. The background is a flat purple field dotted with darker circles, the ground is made of solid black slabs, and the character is a round black blob with no face at all.

There is no menu, no score and no currency. A large level number sits at the top of the screen, one of thirty, and a round green restart button sits in the corner. That is the entire interface.

One card floats over the level, showing W A S beside a dotted line and the arrow keys on the other side, which is the game saying either set will do. The blob moves, jumps and collects the yellow gems that sit along the way.

The one flourish it allows itself is lovely. The blob leaves a trail of fading copies of itself along the path it has just taken, and it glows yellow for as long as it is in the air. Reach the right-hand edge and a green completed banner offers restart or continue.
