Pongoal
Description
Pongoal takes the oldest arcade game there is and gives it stakes. You still slide a paddle up and down one side of the screen, but the space behind you is a goal, and the ball that gets past you counts against you the way a conceded penalty would.
The paddle is your only piece of equipment, so defending and attacking are the same action. Where the ball strikes it decides the angle it leaves at, which means a save made near the middle sends a comfortable return and a save scraped off the edge fires it back somewhere far harder to reach.
Rallies start slow and speed up as they go, and the paddle does not get any bigger to compensate. That gradual squeeze is what makes long exchanges tense rather than repetitive, because the shot that felt easy twenty seconds ago now arrives before you have finished moving.
The whole thing is built for short sessions. Nothing needs explaining beyond up and down, matches finish in a couple of minutes, and losing usually leaves you with a very clear idea of the one movement you should have started earlier.
