Road To 7 lays a path of digits in front of you and asks you to combine them, one neighbour at a time, until only one number is left. You choose the operation at each step: add, subtract, multiply or divide. The final result has to be seven.

Two rules do all the work. Every intermediate result must be a whole number, and it must sit between zero and nine. That rules out most of what you might try first, so a division that leaves a remainder or a multiplication that overshoots nine is not a bad move but an illegal one.

Because the path is fixed, order is the entire puzzle. The same digits combined in a different sequence give completely different intermediate values, and a level that seems impossible usually has one early operation you have not considered rather than a clever trick at the end.

The arithmetic itself stays small enough for mental work, which is the point. This is practice at seeing which operation gets you to a usable number, and that is a more useful habit than speed at any single sum.
