Description

Checkers looks like the simpler cousin of chess and is not. Every piece moves the same way, every piece captures the same way, and the whole game is about who runs out of good moves first. Master Checkers Multiplayer serves it on a clean board with three ways to play: online against a stranger, offline against the computer, or side by side with someone on the same screen.

Pieces step one diagonal square forward and capture by jumping an adjacent enemy piece into the empty square behind it. Chains of jumps count as one move, which is where most of the swings come from. A single exchange can turn into a three-piece sweep if the board underneath was set up for it.

Reaching the far row promotes a piece to a king, and a king moves and captures in both directions. Two kings against one is usually decided; one king against one usually is not. Endgames here reward patience more than aggression, and trading pieces while you are ahead is nearly always correct.

The multiplayer mode pairs you with whoever is waiting, so a game starts in seconds. The computer opponent is there when nobody else is, and pass-and-play covers the case where the other person is sitting next to you.
