Word Search Universe 2 gives you a grid of letters and a list of words buried inside it. You swipe across the letters to mark a word, the entry ticks off the list, and the level ends when nothing is left to find. Nothing about the format needs explaining.

What makes it worth playing more than once is the theming. A level is not a random assortment but a set drawn from one subject, so a science grid and a food grid feel genuinely different to search. Knowing the topic gives you something to guess at when your eye is stuck.

Words hide in every direction, including diagonally and backwards, and the harder grids rely on you giving up on the direction you expect. Scanning for an unusual first letter tends to work better than reading the grid line by line.

The pace stays calm throughout, with no timer pushing you along. That makes it a comfortable game to keep in a tab, and the vocabulary from the categories has a way of surfacing later whether or not you were trying to learn it.
