Description

PopCats is the drop-and-combine puzzle with the fruit replaced by cats. Two identical cats touching becomes one bigger cat, the bigger cat takes more room, and the board fills faster than you expect.

The physics do most of the deciding. A cat dropped straight down rolls, a pile that shifted after a merge is not the pile you planned around, and the space you were saving usually closes while you are looking somewhere else. Nothing here lands exactly where you meant.

Yarn is the escape valve. It removes a cat that has ended up in the wrong place, and using it early to fix a small problem is almost always better than saving it for a board that is already lost.

Each cat has a short story you can read from the panel at the bottom, which is a small thing that makes the collection feel like a collection. Getting the two largest ones together is the win condition, and almost nobody manages it on the first afternoon.
