Monster Slayers
Description
Waves of monsters come at you and there is nobody else on the field. The hero you are playing starts plain, and what it becomes is decided by the choices offered during the run rather than by anything you unlocked beforehand.
That makes each run a fresh construction. Two runs can begin identically and end up as completely different characters, which is the appeal — and it also means a run that goes badly is not a punishment for a bad build so much as evidence about which combinations do not work.
The hordes grow rather than getting individually stronger, so the pressure comes from the number of things on screen. A hero built to hit one target hard is a hero surrounded on the fourth wave; one built to hit everything nearby is fine until something arrives that needs concentrating on.
Movement is on almost anything — arrow keys, WASD, the numpad, IJKL, the mouse, or thumbsticks on a phone — which is unusual and welcome. Runs are self-contained, so it fits into whatever time you have.
