Steel Front

Steel Front presents itself in black and gold with widely spaced lettering, a Second World War shooter built around campaigns. Seven are listed, each with its mission type and terrain, from Normandy in 1944 to the outskirts of Moscow in 1941.

Before a match, you choose a side, a bot difficulty of recruit, veteran or elite, and a battle size. Standard puts eleven against eleven, reinforced sixteen, and epic twenty-two, so the same map can feel like a skirmish or a crush.

The deployment screen is where the detail shows. Eight classes come with named weapons: a rifleman with an M1 Garand, an SMG gunner with a Thompson, a sniper with a Springfield, an anti-tank soldier with a bazooka, plus assault, medic, mortarman and engineer.

The spawn list is not limited to infantry. Three tanks and two fighter aircraft sit under it, so a run can begin behind a Sherman instead of a rifle. In the field, the HUD carries a minimap, the sector targets from A to E, a compass, squad orders and your ammunition count.
